On Saturday, the volunteers and I took a trip to Hosur, a village about an hour away from the Shanti Bhavan campus. We hired a local taxi into town, and our first stop was Domino’s for pizza. We ordered a mix of classic options along with a tandoori paneer pizza and a few other dishes with Indian flavors. After our meal, the staff asked to take a picture with us, which I’ve included below. :)

After lunch, we headed to the grocery store to pick up some extra food for the week, along with treats for the students. At the end of each volunteer’s time on campus, they usually give the students candy or snacks as a farewell gift. Although this was a relatively large grocery store, it still had a much more local feel compared to the one we visited in Bangalore. I loved browsing the aisles filled with Indian snacks and sweets.

Next, we stopped by a hair salon to meet up with one of the volunteers who was getting her hair done. The service was so good and inexpensive that I decided to get a head massage and hair wash. Both treatments together cost only $10!

During our last hour in Hosur, we wandered through some of the shops along the street before heading back to campus. Although Hosur is much smaller than Bangalore, the roads were just as crowded and chaotic. And there was definitely no shortage of motorbikes!
